Nicholas Finegan is a multi-award-winning filmmaker from the South East and a 2021 recipient of the BAFTA Pigott Award.

After starting out in London’s theatre and live-art scene, he trained as a director at the AFI Conservatory in Los Angeles, where he honed a cinematic signature that blends the saturated tenderness of sensual cinema with the grounded psychology of British social realism.

His latest short, ‘Some Kind of Paradise’, premiered in competition at Tribeca and was nominated for the Iris Prize, before screening at numerous Academy Award- and BAFTA-qualifying festivals including BFI Flare, AFI Fest, HollyShorts, Norwich Film Festival and Out On Film Atlanta. The film subsequently premiered online with Directors Notes. Nicholas’s work has received numerous awards and distinctions, including a Vimeo Staff Pick, ‘Best Director’ at Sunrise Film Festival, ‘Best Narrative Short’ at Miami Outshine, and the ‘Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Short’ at Oscar-qualifying Calgary International Film Festival.

His other collaborators and commissioners include DAZED, The Atlantic, Peccadillo Pictures and the UN. In 2024, Nicholas received BFI Early Development funding to begin work on his debut feature.
